Meditation:Why you should practise it

Did you know meditation can reduce stress, clear your mind, improve your focus and memory, and bring emotional balance into your life?

That's why meditation have gained massive popularity among professional athletes and business people in recent years. But also, it has gone mainstream among the overall population. Many articles and studies have been done on this topic lately, and all of them came to the same conclusion:

MEDITATION HELPS YOU LIVE A HEALTHIER & MORE SUCCESSFUL LIFE.

MEDITATION - an ancient and valuable practice

It is the process of going beyond our rational mind into our neutral mind. The rational mind constantly divides, judges, criticizes, compares, and makes ups stories while the neutral mind accepts everything exactly as it is and sees the bigger picture.

Simplified explanation of the meditation process:

Mind transitions from THINKING or DOING to BEING

Meditation aims to achieve an inner state of awareness and intensify personal and spiritual growth. The focus and concentration are maintained through visualisation and mantra repetition. Meditating with a mantra clears your subconscious mind (old programs and beliefs).

There are meditations helpful to reduce stress and anxiety, bring prosperity into your life, emotional balance, clear the fear-based subconscious programs, open the heart for giving and receiving love, increase creativity, build intuition, and many more.

My morning routine consists of kundalini yoga set and meditation. It's essential for me to start the day with calm mind and energised but relaxed body. And there are days when I am not 100% present and that's fine. We are not robots. It's natural to experience different mental and emotional states. But what counts is my awareness and presence to allow it and let it pass.

I witness how clients' lives improve by implementing meditation practice in their daily routine. Over time they feel calmer, less reactive, live life more consciously, and enjoy the present moment.

Unfortunately, some people give up on their first attempt and conclude that meditating stresses them instead of relaxing. They say that they are not able to control their thoughts. Their mind is load & noisy. I cannot agree more with that statement. It is not easy the first couple of times.

Imagine you are about to start with a new sport, learn a new language, or learn a new skill. How would you feel after the first two training sessions or classes? Perhaps overwhelmed, thinking:" OMG, how will I master this? It seems too challenging to me." The same is with meditation. Think of meditation as building muscle.

YOU NEED A STRONG WILLPOWER TO KEEP UP WITH THE PRACTICE

=> PRACTICE MAKES IT PERFECT

People having difficulty focusing on their breath and observing the sensations within themselves find it very helpful to meditate with a mantra. Repeating the mantra keep their focus steady.

I am sharing a simple mantra meditation to calm your restless mind.

You can do it alone or with your friend, partner, family, or colleague.

For the best results, if possible, meditate after waking up or before going to bed.

SAT NAM Meditation (3-11min)

The translation and meaning of the mantra: the truth is my name, the truth is my identity.

Find a quiet spot. Sit on your mat in a cross-legged position or sit on the chair with your feet touching the floor. Keep your spine straight, hands resting on your knees, palms facing the ceiling, and let your thumbs and index fingers touch. Close your eyes.

Pronounce mentally (not aloud) SAT on the inhale & NAM on the exhale.

Start with 1 min, then extend slowly to 3min. With time try to build up the practice to 11min.

Give it a try. Practice it 2-3 times a week and see how it will make you feel.

Maybe you won't love meditation right away, but it's inevitable that you will as soon as you start feeling its life changing benefits.
