When writing this post, I was amazed at how scientific people throughout history spoke about intuition in a very natural way. Our spiritual nature does not necessarily exclude our rational nature based on science and logical thinking. Spirituality and science can complement each other, as we see in the example of Albert Einstein.
People call intuition different names: gut feeling, instinct, sixth sense, inner voice, whispers of soul, or hunch.
BRIEF LOOK INTO THE PAST
The origin of intuition goes back to renowned psychoanalysts Carl Jung and Wilfred Bion, who put it at the center of analytic practice.
Jung defined intuition as "perception via the unconscious which has the characteristic of being given."
Albert Einstein had a very close connection with intuition. Apart from being one of the most significant inventors of the 20th century in the field of physics, he often mentioned intuition as part of the origin of his discoveries:
"I was sitting in the patent office in Bern when all of a sudden a thought occurred to me: if a person falls freely, he won't feel his own weight. I was startled. This simple thought made a deep impression on me. It impelled me toward a theory of gravitation."
"I believe in intuition and inspiration…At times I feel certain I am right while not knowing the reason." - Albert Einstein
NOWDAYS
Today intuition is defined as an irrational, instinctive and in some way "artistic understanding" of reality, a realization of a certain moment, which offers us conclusions without a formal thinking process.
True, we cannot measure it or explain it mathematically or logically, but certainly, we are capable of hearing its messages through our unconscious mind.
Richard Branson, a business magnate, openly speaks about how he trusts intuition when making big decisions: "I RELY FAR MORE ON GUT INSTINCT THAN RESEARCHING HUGE AMOUNTS OF STATISTICS."
HOW TO RECOGNIZE INTUITION
The intuition is as quick as a flash or a flying arrow. It shows up as an idea, thought, image or symbol. In life there are moments of time when we overthink and analyze, don't be fooled, that's not intuition but rather your rational mind seeking logical explanations.
HOW TO DEVELOP YOUR INTUITION
1. Meditate
2. Spend time in nature
3. Breathe deeply (Diaphragmatic Breathing)
4. Journal your thoughts, emotions, feelings regularly
INTERESTING FACTS
Each one of us has access to the power of intuition, though one rarely explores one's potential.
Since birth, we possess a gift of hearing our wise nature. Still not many of us are aware about the fact that intuition is an essential part of human consciousness, and it complements rational thinking and decision-making.
Sensing the subtle higher expressions within your body, such as emotions and intuition, you let your wise inner voice work for you!
"INTUITION IS A VERY POWERFUL THING. MORE POWERFUL THAN INTELLECT" - Steve Jobs
When I'm unsure about something, and there is a sensation as if something inside me is physically stopping me from taking that specific action, I remind myself:
This is my inner voice speaking to me.
Don't rush. When you know, you know.
